About

I started this blog by accident. I wanted to write about my Chloe – so I tried to log into WordPress and add the story to my original blog: http://www.drmaryvet.com

For some reason, it is still visible to read on the internet, but I can no longer access it. So I started this one, and as it turns out, I think it is even more appropriate. My original blog is filled with fun stories and adventures of rescuing an array of different animals. But my story about Chloe has a very different tone, and therefore a very different message. I changed the theme to reflect the mood of these posts as they are far more personal and I am speaking from a very different part of my heart. The title, “We walk the winding path…” signifies our parallel walks and journeys through life. People who meet me often remark about how “happy I am – all the time.” And I laugh on the inside at the irony thinking – “if you only knew.”

The very first sentence in the book, “The Road Less Traveled” is this, “Life is difficult.” What a brilliant and true statement. There is a very dark truth that our profession is currently facing and struggling to deal with – the rise in the suicide rate. It has climbed to an all-time high for veterinarians. I have personally lost several friends within the last few years – and this haunts me nearly everyday.

Our jobs as veterinarians can be emotionally exhausting, and sadly, for many of us, extremely isolating. It’s hard to admit that you are not OK, that you don’t have it all together, or that (God Forbid) you need help. And so while my long standing blog aims to bring a smile to the readers face through the silliness, cuteness and fun I have, this blog aims to go deeper – and reach people where they are hurting.

My hope is that the many years I have spent walking alone through one trial after the next, may be used to help others. I hope that my stories may bring comfort and inspiration for all who need it. One day at a time, one moment by moment, we can walk this winding path together.

May you know peace, true healing, and comfort. – Mary Marcotte, D.V.M.
